What is a compass?
Most of us today only know a compass from stories, when the heroes are on their way to their next adventure using an old-fashioned map. Nowadays, many people tend to rely on an online map provider or even an online compass as a smartphone app.
A compass works with the help of a magnetic needle whose magnetic north pole rotates in the direction of the earth's magnetic south pole. It thus points to the geographic north pole, which is located in the Arctic, and is helpful when it comes to geographical orientation.
